BREAKING: News reports just coming in reports of a big explosion that happened at a facility managed by one of NNPC partners. It is an explosion in OML 40 facility.
The Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) reported that the explosion happened at a production facility in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 40. This facility in focus is managed by NNPC partners, Elcrest Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited.


According to Daily Post, the incident occurred during evacuation at Gbetiokun Early Production facility. The Gbetiokun field is located in the southeast of OML 40 and was discovered in 1987.

NNPC spokesman, Kennie Obateru, stated that there were no fatalities, injuries or significant spill after the blast. The company has commenced investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident.
A similar explosion occurred around the same facility in July this year, killing seven people. At that time, Dr Kennie Obateru said that the blast occurred during the installation of a ladder on Benin River Valve Station platform for access during discharging of Gbetiokun production.
