Everyone desires to live and feel healthy during our life time. For many people, though, it is easier said than done. Their lifestyle over the years have seen them develop many health challenges, many of which cannot be undone. What then do we need to do to enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle? In this article, I am going to review advice from experts on how to live healthy lifestyle. Read on to learn about some healthy lifestyle tips and benefits.
What is Healthy Lifestyle?
Healthy Lifestyle is defined as how people should live if they want to live a vibrant, active life with a healthy body and healthy mind. Creating a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to mean drastic changes. Making gradual small changes to your diet and activity habit can have a big impact. In many instances, physical and mental health are closely linked, so that a change (good or bad) in one directly affects the other. Consequently, some of the tips I will be sharing here will include suggestions for emotional and mental “healthy living.”
A healthy person also knows how to do everything in moderation all the time. When you look at everything that could possibly go into a healthy lifestyle, it can really be hard in our current world. The good news is, you don’t have to change everything at the same time. In fact, the trick to healthy living is making small changes—taking more steps each day. Let’s take a look at some of them now.
All humans have to eat food for growth and maintenance of a healthy body.
Eat three healthy meals a day, and the bulk of your meals should consist of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat milk products.
Incorporate lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts, but eat the smallest portion that can satisfy hunger and then stop eating.
Healthy snacks are OK in moderation, but avoid sodas and sugar-coated drinks because of their excessive calories.
Avoid eating a large meal before sleeping to decrease weight gain.
People with diabetes should use the above tips and monitor their glucose levels as directed.
Those with unusual work schedules (night shifts, college students, military) should try to eat regular meals with minimal snacking.
If you’re trying to lose weight, avoid all fatty and sugary foods and eat mainly vegetables, fruits, and nuts. You should also reduce your intake of meat and dairy products.
Engage in physical activity
Physical activity and exercise is a major contributor to a healthy lifestyle. Unhealthy living may manifest itself in obesity, weakness, lack of endurance. Overall poor health resulting from lack of physical exercise may foster disease development.
Regular exercise can prevent and reverse age-related decreases in muscle mass and strength. It can also improve balance, flexibility, and endurance, and decrease the risk of falls in the elderly.
Fitness activities can help chronic arthritis suffers improve their capacity to perform daily activities such as driving, climbing stairs, and opening jars.
Regular exercise can help control body weight and in some people cause loss of fat.
Thirty minutes of modest exercise at least 3 to 5 days a week can help increase self-esteem and self-confidence. It can also decrease stress and anxiety, as well as enhance mood, and improve general mental health.
Most individuals can begin with moderate exercise, such as walking, without a medical examination. However, people in their 40’s & above, overweight, or have health challenges should consult a doctor before they begin.
Lack of physical activity and exercise are associated with heart disease and some cancers.
Physical inactivity and lack of exercise are associated with type II diabetes mellitus.
It also contributes to weight gain and the challenges that comes with it.

Try to make some leisure time to do some things that interest you every week.

Lifestyle Behaviors to Avoid
Tobacco use – This is the most important preventable illness and cause of death in the world. Tobacco use causes or contributes to a large number of cancers in men and women. Even inhaling tobacco smoke can cause several health challenges in children, and lung cancer in adults.
Excessive alcohol consumption – This is the major cause of liver cirrhosis in the world.
Liver cirrhosis can cause internal hemorrhage, fluid accumulation in the abdomen, easy bleeding and bruising. Other effects include muscle wasting, infections, and in advanced cases, coma, and kidney failure.
Alcohol accounts for up to 50% of deaths from automobile accidents, and is a significant cause of injury and death from home accidents, drowning, and burns.
High-risk sexual behaviors – This include having multiple sex partners or people with a history of drug abuse and venereal diseases. Such behaviors can lead to the acquisition of sexually transmitted illnesses such as gonorrhea, syphilis, or HIV infection. Avoid unprotected sex outside an established, marital relationship.
There are many other risky behaviors that may impede an otherwise healthy lifestyle, and they can’t all be discussed here. However, these healthy lifestyle tips and benefits discussed here can save lives. It is important to make the right moves to enjoy a healthy lifestyle!
